Wedding Anniversary Gift
Project Overview
A one year anniversary gift to my sister and brother-in-law. At a time when people are sending personalized, digital, animated cards, I wanted to send something a little different.
The Challenge
A way to add some interactivity and personalization in the space of remembering large events. To have a gift that could travel long distances, be shared instantly, and occupy space, was the goal.
The Approach
I set to work cutting out figures from photos taken on the wedding day, modeling set pieces, and positioning them in 3D space. I was able to position them, and animate them, all inside of Adobe Aero.

Motivations
To send a gift to commemorate a special event, without the fear of it becoming another thing to take up space or feel impersonal, like a digital card.
User Interaction
Recipients can interact and open the present just as they could a card or box.
Immediate Delivery
Can be sent over email or text without the delay of the postal or third-party service.
Multiple Points of Presence (MPOP)
Convienent to share with family and friends who live out-of-state.
Lessons Learned
Designing an augmented reality application heavily involves testing at nearly every stage of development. The scale of the box was misleading in the 3D view on the computer, versus when it was on my handheld device and inhabiting the scene. The animation, rotation, and scale had to be manipulated for every side of the box and its components. It was my goal that this box be able to sit on a table, all sides rest on the same plane, and move in unison.
Not sure if this is a limitation of Adobe Aero, but the models were not influenced by environmental lighting. Photos and textures needed to be brought back into Photoshop and made lighter than they originally appeared. Planning a project like this requires early planning. Firefly and Adobe Stock filled in gaps where there needed to be more information or textures. More photos would have needed to be taken on site to have a more authentic appearance to the scenes.
